Donations like yours helped to save Cocoa's life. She had a life threatening heart condition that could only be treated with open heart surgery. She is now a healthy pup that can go on to live a long healthy life.

Here's her story... We pulled Cocoa from an overcrowded kill shelter, because she had no hope for a future there... We knew she suffered from a unknown heart condition, but vowed we would not let her final days be in a shelter.

Cocoa had seen several vets and a cardiologist and had undergone X-Rays and an Echocardiogram and she was diagnosed with a heart condition called Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA). Her only option was open chest surgery. Due to her age (1 year) it was urgent that we perform this surgery immediately, as most dogs with this condition do not live to be a year old... we were literally on borrowed time.

Even though prognosis with surgery was excellent, the surgery was very expensive. We were quoted a price of $3,600-$4,200. If we did nothing, she would be fortunate to live another 6 months.

Her Prognosis then... Most dogs and cats that undergo correction of their PDA have good to excellent long term prognosis, and most will lead a completely normal life after surgery.

And Cocoa now... weeks of healing and recovery and Cocoa has made it to the other side. She is now a healthy, happy, lizard chasing little girl that is loving life!
